Feb. 8—CRETE, Neb. — For the second time this season, the Dakota Wesleyan University men's basketball team and Doane needed overtime to decide a winner, but this time DWU made sure the outcome was different.

Just as they did in the earlier matchup, neither side could shake the other through 40 minutes of regulation, trading baskets and momentum down the stretch before overtime became unavoidable. Unlike the first meeting, however, Dakota Wesleyan found the answers in the extra period to close out the victory.

In the overtime period tied at 69-all, Randy Rosenquist Jr. drilled a 3-pointer with 28 seconds left to earn a five-point lead for DWU. Doane's Trevon Beckman made a long-range jumper to cut it to two points with 13 seconds left, then it was a free-throw game for the remainder of extra time for Dakota Wesleyan. And DWU delivered on every opportunity at the line, making four consecutive free throws down the stretch to seal the tight victory.

In the extra five minutes of action, Easton Neuendorf (8) and Rosenquist (7) scored all 15 points for DWU and limited Doane to 3-for-7 shooting from the field and 4-for-6 at the free-throw line.

For the game, there were eight lead changes and eight ties, as the largest lead of the game came from DWU with 2:46 left in the first half. Dakota Wesleyan captured a nine-point lead but Doane capped off the first half with a 10-0 run to take a 35-34 lead heading into the break.

At the end of regulation, Doane took a 69-67 lead with 58 seconds left but DWU's Rosenquist made a jump shot inside the 3-point line to tie the game up at 69-all in the final 40 seconds. Dakota Wesleyan had a chance to win at the end of the fourth quarter after a Doane turnover, but Rosenquist missed a layup to send it to overtime for the second time this season between the two teams. In the previous matchup on Jan. 7, Doane earned a 73-66 overtime victory.

Dakota Wesleyan (13-11, 8-8 GPAC) was paced by a career-high scoring day from Tyson Stevenson, who led all scorers with 25 points on 9-for-16 shooting, five 3-pointers, plus five rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Neuendorf posted 17 points with a trio of 3-pointers, and had five rebounds and five assists, while Rosenquist offered 14 points, nine rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks. DWU shot 44.8% from the field, 11-for-25 from the 3-point line and had 14 second-chance points on 14 offensive rebounds.

Doane (11-14, 5-12 GPAC) had five players in double-figures for the game, as Jack Wilson led the way with 20 points and five rebounds, while Casen Chaney (18), Jonan Claussen (13), Justus Gardiner (12) and Beckman (12) rounded out the top-five scorers. Doane shot 45.5% from the field with 11 3-pointers but shot 71.4% at the free-throw line and had 15 turnovers.

DWU will be back on the road against Waldorf at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 11 in Forest City, Iowa. Dakota Wesleyan defeated Waldorf 83-70 on Jan. 14 at the Corn Palace in the previous meeting this season.
