Hubert Davis updates Caleb Wilson injury status for UNC basketball

During his weekly radio show, UNC basketball coach Hubert Davis provided an injury update on freshman star Caleb Wilson.
“Caleb is, he is great,” Davis told play-by-play announcer Jones Angell on Monday, Feb. 16, from Top of the Hill restaurant and brewery in Chapel Hill.

“I think if I said OK, I think he would play with his (splint) on. I think he would. I mean, he's just … chopping at the bit to come back, because he loved, obviously, loves playing. But he loves his teammates, and he loves playing here. Very devastating to get the news.”
Davis went on to say that Wilson will “be back on the floor soon, so that’d be great.” Wilson wore a splint and wrap around his left hand during UNC’s win against Pitt and there’s still no official timetable for his return.
Despite the injury, Davis and the Tar Heels praised Wilson for his vocal leadership and activity from the sidelines during practice and against the Panthers.
“A huge determining factor of us playing well (against Pitt) was also Caleb. I mean, I don't, I didn't see him on the bench, but I've seen highlights. He was great on the bench. I mean, it was so encouraging. His voice was in the locker room, was in the huddle,” Davis said.
“What a great example, 'cause, I mean, very easily, Caleb could be within himself and go … ‘Woe is me,’ and separate himself from the team because he's hurt. He did the exact opposite. He's in practice. He's dribbling with his right hand. He's in the huddles. … And what a great example of when things weren't particularly going his way in regards to his hand, he's still a great teammate. He’ll be back on the floor soon.”
The Tar Heels (20-5, 8-4 ACC) play at N.C. State (18-8, 9-4) on Tuesday, Feb. 17 (7 p.m., ESPN), at Lenovo Center in Raleigh.
