Emma Raducanu has brought Mark Petchey into her coaching setup as she prepares for Indian Wells.
The tournament, which starts next month, is followed by the Miami Open – another big event on the WTA calendar.

Her last outing came at the Dubai Tennis Championships, where she lost in straight sets to Antonia Ruzic in the first round.
Following that loss, Raducanu split with coach Francisco Roig and has since welcomed Petchey back into her team ahead of Indian Wells.

In the time since, Alexis Canter has stepped into a dual role, continuing as her hitting partner while also taking on coaching duties. He’ll remain courtside during her matches at Indian Wells.
Petchey will join them as well, overseeing practice sessions while balancing his work for Tennis Channel.
This isn’t his first stint with Raducanu; they previously worked together for four months before she brought in Roig last August.
According to The Times, there’s still some uncertainty around whether this new setup will continue past the initial stages of the Sunshine Double.
Emma Raducanu’s consistency woes continue in 2026
Raducanu’s decision to bring in Petchey is a sensible one. His experience could be just what she needs behind the scenes.
But it feels more like another short-term fix for a long-standing issue, as Raducanu has already cycled through a number of coaches by the age of 23.
That instability off the court has shown up in her results too, as she’s currently sitting at an even 6-6 for the season.
After bowing out early at the Australian Open, she made it to the final in Transylvania before retiring ill during her opener in Qatar.
Her career has followed this pattern for some time now – flashes of brilliance mixed with inconsistency – and her only WTA title remains that breakout win at the 2021 US Open.
She’s had moments where another title seemed within reach, but at present, lifting trophies at Indian Wells or Miami looks a distant prospect for the world number 25.
A permanent coaching setup would help steady things. However, Petchey isn’t likely to fill that role given his broadcasting obligations with Tennis Channel and various commitments away from tennis training sessions.
Injuries have also played their part. There’s little doubt that Raducanu could use an uninterrupted stretch of tournaments to build some momentum. Without that stability and a consistent presence guiding her game plan and overall form, maintaining consistency will remain difficult as there’s no structure or flow between events.
The frequent changes haven’t helped her confidence either. Still, there’s reason to believe she’ll find someone who can help bring out her best again when pairing with Canter too behind closed doors could pay dividends if they can stick together during the Sunshine Double after a disappointing defeat last time out against Russia’s Antonia Ruzic (4-6 | 5-7).
