The big-spending Blues have little room for error in the run-in, with a midweek defeat to Millwall leaving Birmingham eight points from the play-off places, albeit with a game in hand.
That defeat did end an eight-game unbeaten run, however, with the club having improved under Chris Davies following last summer’s squad overhaul.
Their opponents tonight sit second in the table, but with strong pressure from Millwall and Ipswich Town behind them in the race for automatic promotion.
Birmingham City team news
Birmingham will not be able to call on Jhon Solis for tonight’s clash, after his red card in midweek. Solis picked up two bookings against Millwall and will serve a one-game ban.
Also missing is Kai Wagner, who picked up an injury late on in that defeat. Birmingham’s options are further depleted by the absence of Kyogo Furuhashi, Paik Seung-Ho, Lee Buchanan and Alex Cochrane.
Birmingham City predicted lineup
Predicted Birmingham XI vs Middlesbrough: Beadle; Osayi-Samuel, Klarer, Panzo, Laird; Iwata, Doyle; Vicente, Stansfield, Gray; Ducksch.
