Miller, a former top prospect, has battled injuries for much of the past two seasons, and it’s preventing him from fully participating in spring training thus far.

He hasn’t yet thrown off the mound due to what manager Dave Roberts described as a shoulder and arm issue.

“There’s some arm, I think it’s a little shoulder soreness, haven’t figured out when to kind of ramp him up,” Roberts said. “So I don’t know that answer right now, but I know that he’s kind of slow to participate.”

Bobby Miller’s 2023 Shows His Potential

Though 2024 and 2025 haven’t been ideal for Miller, he had a huge rookie year in 2023.

That season, he had 22 starts, earning an 11-4 record with a 3.76 ERA.

He also had 119 strikeouts through 124.1 innings.

The next two years, however, were a significant step backwards.

In 2024, though, his record was only 2-4 in his 13 starts. His ERA 8.52 and his WHIP jumped from 1.102 in 2023 to 1.768 in 2024.

He only appeared in two games with one start in 2025, recording no wins, losses or saves in his five innings of work.

He did, however, allow 11 hits, seven earned runs and two walks for an ERA of 12.60 and a WHIP of 2.600.

Where Does Bobby Miller Fit in 2026?

With Miller working from the bullpen in 2026, he has a chance to regain his form, but cracking the starting rotation could prove more difficult.

The Dodgers are planning to use a six-man rotation again this year, and though future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw has retired, there are plenty of hurlers vying for that spot.

Roki Sasaki is expected to get starts alongside returners Blake Snell, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Shohei Ohtani, Tyler Glasnow and Emmet Sheehan.

Snell is dealing with an injury to start the year, creating an opportunity for someone like River Ryan, who’s returning from injury, or left-hander Justin Wrobleski.

President of baseball operations Andrew Friedman highlighted Wrobleski as a possibility.

“I think his ability to grow and mature and learn how to harness his stuff and compete in those moments will serve him well as he tries to navigate a lineup two, three times,” Friedman said, per MLB’s Sonja Chen. “He’ll certainly be a candidate. He was also so good out of the ‘pen, we have to weigh that.”
