Dodgers’ Dave Roberts Gets Candid About Edgardo Henríquez’s Struggles

· Yahoo Sports

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was brutally honest about reliever Edgardo Henriquez, who was a key member of the 2025 World Series-winning bullpen, and his struggles during his first couple of Spring Training outings.

Henriquez has already made two appearances in Spring Training for Los Angeles during their first week of action, but both have been rough and are putting his Opening Day roster spot in jeopardy.

Through two outings, he has given up six earned runs in two appearances, pitching just one full inning in total and allowing three hits, two walks, and two hit batters.

In total, he has retired only three batters out of the 10 that he has faced, an overall poor showing thus far for the pitcher who can pump out a 100 MPH fastball regularly.

After his spring struggles, Roberts is not hiding that his concerns regarding Henriquez, who was one of the many heroes in Game 2 of the World Series.

“These two outings have been very – I don’t know if it’s a regression but it just hasn’t been what we expected,” Roberts said.

“We’ve got to get back and see where we can kind of get him back on track. This was not what we were hoping for the first two outings. We’ve got to get back to work with him.”

Edgardo Henriquez’s 2025 season

The righty had a great regular season in 2025, standing out among a bad batch of bullpen options. He had a 2.37 ERA in 22 games, having pitched 19 innings.

His fastball velocity was in the 100th percentile, while he did a good job of limiting hard-hit balls in terms of volume, which, on average, helped him limit runs from being put on the board.

However, with the Dodgers getting more pitchers healthy and hoping for some bounce-back from underwhelming players, Henriquez is facing stiff competition to make the roster in 2026, especially with the addition of Edwin Diaz, the lights-out closer.

Last season, Henriquez was yo-yoed from the active roster to the minor leagues, eventually earning a spot on the bullpen that went into the postseason.

If his performances don’t improve, Henriquez will end up suffering a similar fate, having to work his way up once again.
