The San Francisco 49ers are expected to add another coach to their staff as they look to finalize what’s already one of the better staffs in the league.

According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, San Francisco is expected to hire Angel Matute, who most recently served as the offensive line coach at Kent State.
“The #49ers are expected to hire Kent State offensive line coach Angel Matute, a source tells @CBSSports. Was key in Kent State cutting its sacks allowed total from 43 in 2024 to 27 last season. Also helped the team improve its rushing average by 20 yards per game,” he wrote.
While a new offensive line coach might not make many fans too excited, the unit is arguably the most important on the team. Keeping Brock Purdy up and healthy is just as crucial as anything and will be needed.
Adding a coach with a strong background fits what they’ve tried to do. The 49ers have consistently built their offense around physical line play and a great rushing attack, an idea that relies heavily on disciplined blocking and protection.
While Matute will make a big jump from the college ranks to the NFL, he should find success at the highest level with all of the talent the 49ers have.
