The Baltimore Ravens are no longer acquiring Maxx Crosby from the Las Vegas Raiders. Should the New England Patriots pick up the phone?

According to The Athletic's Dianni Russini on Tuesday, the Ravens backed out of the Crosby deal after he underwent testing at the Ravens facility. However, Russini later reported that the physical was not the reason for the Ravens backing out.

"It’s been made clear by multiple people around the NFL at all levels that Baltimore had all the information and understood where Maxx Crosby’s knee was in terms of his recovery timeline," Russini wrote on Wednesday. "Many in the league believe GM Eric DeCosta and the Ravens ultimately just got cold feet."

The Patriots were one of the first teams linked to Crosby in trade rumors. After reports indicate that K'Lavon Chaisson is signing with the Washington Commanders, the Patriots could really use Crosby. The Patriots are signing Dre'Mont Jones, but that does not mean their pass rush is fixed.

The Patriots' willingness to swing a trade is dependent on two things now. First, is Crosby actually healthy? Second, are the Raiders willing to come down in their asking price in the wake of recent events? Crosby's agent assures teams that he is on track to be ready by Week 1, and his rehab is going as expected.

"Maxx continues to be on track in his recovery and if anything is ahead of schedule according to his surgeon Dr Neal El Attrache," his agent wrote on X on Tuesday. "Maxx remains on track to return during the offseason program & will undoubtedly return as the dominant game wrecker he has been these past 7 seasons."

As for the second situation, the Raiders are reportedly maintaining their asking price of two-first round picks. Additionally, Crosby does not seem to be asking for a trade, so the Raiders have no incentive to take less. According to Ian Rapoport, his mindset is that he is ready to play football for the Raiders now.

It seems like trading for Crosby at this time would cost the Patriots too much. Even though he is reportedly going to be ready by week 1, the Patriots should hold off on a trade if it will require multiple first-round picks.
