Selected with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the 49ers, Lance spent two seasons in San Francisco. He started his rookie season as a backup to Jimmy Garoppolo. In 2022, he was projected to start before suffering a season-ending injury, leading to Brock Purdy taking the reins.
In 2023, Lance was traded to the Cowboys for a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. In his first season in Dallas, he didn't see the field. In Year 2, Lance served as the third-string quarterback.
