Vote for Girls Basketball Player of the Week, presented by White Plains Hospital
· Yahoo Sports
Remarkably, each of the five Section 1 champions prevailed in their respective regional tournaments last week and advanced to the state semifinals. Section 1 will be the most represented section in the final four, ahead of Section 2. Within that, of course, were several outstanding performances that produced for us five candidates for Girls Basketball Player of the Week, presented by White Plains Hospital.

Maya Corniel, Nyack
She had 21 points, including going 5 for 5 on three-pointers in the opening 10 minutes, to lead the RedHawks in 55-40 win over Westhampton from Long Island in the Class AA regional final, advancing to the state semifinals for the first time since 1983. Corniel also scored 10 second-half points to help them stave off Section 9's Warwick in the regional semifinal.
Adrianna D'Orio, Tappan Zee
The senior has carried a torrid shooting stretch through their biggest postseason games thus far. She scored 21 points, including six 3-pointers, to lead the Dutchmen in a 47-44 win over Long Island's Plainedge in the Class A regional final on Sunday. D'Orio also had 20 points with six threes in their rout of Section 9's Highland in the regional semifinal.
Anisa Mustafaj, Yonkers Montessori
The eighth-grader has been a sharpshooting spark off the bench, offering instant offense in the playoffs and often swinging momentum with clutch shots. Mustafaj scored 17 points in the Eagles' 58-44 win over defending state champion Cold Spring Harbor in the Class B regional final, earning their first berth to the state semifinals. She also had 17 points, including three second-half 3-pointers in their regional semifinal win over James I. O'Neill.
Brooke Matarazzo, Tuckahoe
She had 14 points, six rebounds and four steals in the Tigers' 55-42 win over Pierson from Long Island in the Class C regional final on Sunday. Matarazzo also was tasked with guarding Pierson star Molly Wolfson in the second half and she slowed her in the fourth quarter, helping Tuckahoe pull away.
Julia Scott, Albertus Magnus
She had 20 points, 16 rebounds, six assists and two blocks for the Falcons in a blowout of Long Island champion Baldwin in the Class AAA regional final, which earned them a third consecutive trip to the state final four. Scott also scored 26 points in their regional semifinal win over Newburgh.
