With Opening Day just a few days away, the Phillies need to trim the roster to 26 players, and things are finally clearing up for who's making the roster and who isn't.
The Phillies announced three roster moves that will further help narrow down the Opening Day roster. Two of these moves are players making the team, including one reliever and one versatile fielder, while the other is a draft pick returned to his former team.
Phillies make trio of roster moves ahead of Opening Day
"LHP Tim Mayza and INF/OF Dylan Moore requested and received their release yesterday (3/21). Today (3/22), each was signed to a major league contract. Additionally, yesterday (3/21), the Phillies returned RHP Zach McCambley to the Miami Marlins," the Phillies announced.
These three roster moves are noteworthy, as they will help narrow down the Opening Day roster in a major way.
The Phillies had a bench spot open, and with Moore re-signing with the Phillies on a Major League deal, he's essentially a lock to make the Opening Day roster.
He will be a bench option who can play in the infield or the outfield. While he might not be a constant presence, his Gold Glove-caliber defense and decent hitting make him a solid bench option for the 2026 season.

Mayza is an interesting lefty reliever who had some run with the Phillies last season. He returns and will be a part of the bullpen again this year alongside lefties Jose Alvarado, Tanner Banks, and potentially Kyle Buckhus.
Lastly, McCambley didn't make the Phillies Opening Day roster. Because he was a Rule 5 Draft pick that didn't make the roster, he was returned to the team he was previously on before being drafted, which in this scenario is the Miami Marlins.
While it's not official just yet, Dave Dombrowski and Rob Thomson have narrowed down the Opening Day roster that will not include McCambley, but will include Mayza and Moore.
