Detroit — The Red Wings assigned defenseman Axel Sandin-Pellikka after Monday's practice to Grand Rapids.

Sandin-Pellikka, 21, was a regular in the lineup up until the trade deadline, after which he was bumped out of the lineup when the Wings acquired defenseman Justin Faulk.

Sandin-Pellikka played in 63 games, notching 19 points (six goals, 13 assists), and a minus-21 plus-minus rating, while averaging 16 minutes and 19 seconds of ice time.

Sandin-Pellikka's last game played with the Wings was the night of the trade deadline, March 6 against Florida. He's been a healthy scratch for the last seven games.

Red Wings coach Todd McLellan has consistently said it's the organization's desire to see Sandin-Pellikka play on a regular basis to keep improving and gaining experience — and if that wasn't possible with the Wings, then it would be with the Griffins.
