The Miami Hurricanes took to the field for their Pro Day this week, the final chance for their future NFL players to make an impression before the 2026 NFL Draft.

One of those players was edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr., who has become a polarizing prospect since the NFL Combine. The three-year starter for the Hurricanes was one of the most productive edge rushers in the country in 2025 with 12 sacks on 83 pressures.

At the combine, Bain’s arm measurements made waves. At 30⅞ inches, they’re some of the shortest arms in the class and an outlier for a first-round pick.

"I didn't hear it until later in the year, but it kind of surprised me because I never heard it all my life," Bain said at the NFL Combine after the measurements were made official. "I don't give it the time of day, honestly."

The chatter around his short arms has continued, but the Miami edge rusher didn’t change his tune after the Hurricanes’ Pro Day and even evoked a comparison to a champion boxer.

“Mike Tyson, he wasn’t the tallest guy, wasn’t the longest-limbed guy, but when you felt him, you felt him,” Bain told NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe. “You kept your distance.”

Bain opted against another arm measurement at the Miami Pro Day and instead took the opportunity to showcase his skills beyond his power off the edge. The Hurricanes' top pass rusher even dropped in coverage off the edge during Monday's drills.

“Most people didn’t know I could drop in coverage like that,” Bain said. “I’m at a new weight, new body type, new style and I’m still the same player.”

Arm length concerns or not, he's widely expected to be a first-round pick and likely in the top 12. Bain ended up going No. 9 overall to the Kansas City Chiefs in the latest mock draft from USA TODAY Sports' Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz.
