According to a press release issued by Chief Public Relations Officer, Western Railway, Vineet Abhishek, the work was carried out during a mega block scheduled from 22:30 hrs on March 28, 2026, to 19:30 hrs on March 29, 2026. Additionally, a new fast line was constructed between 01:00 hrs and 04:30 hrs on March 29, 2026. The complex engineering work was completed within a tight timeframe, ensuring accuracy while minimising long-term disruption.
The process involved removing four spans of old steel girders and installing 28 pre-stressed concrete slabs along with eight retainers after de-launching eight steel girders. PSC slabs offer greater strength, durability, and load-bearing capacity compared to conventional steel girders. They are corrosion-resistant, require less maintenance, and provide better structural stability, making them suitable for heavy suburban rail traffic and adverse weather conditions. Their use is expected to enhance overall safety while also enabling smoother and more efficient train operations.
