FSU baseball offense struggles, pitching falters in 10-1 loss to Nebraska

· Yahoo Sports

Florida State baseball's offense went cold, and the pitching staff had no answers for Nebraska, as the Seminoles lost 10-1 on Sunday, Feb. 22, at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

The No. 16/11 Seminoles (4-2) end the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series 1-2, dropping consecutive games to No. 9 Auburn and the Cornhuskers.

After a four-run scoring outburst against the Tigers in the first inning of Saturday's game, the Seminoles recorded just four hits and two runs in 17 innings of baseball, while striking out 27 times in the two games, including 14 times against Nebraska.

Myles Bailey hit a solo home run in the fourth inning, the lone run and just one of two hits for the Seminoles. The other came from Kelyvn Paulino in the ninth inning, a single to left field.

FSU started Payton Manca, but he lasted less than an inning and allowed two hits, three earned runs, and a pair of walks in five batters faced. Chris Knier replaced him and worked 2.2 innings, and he struck out four batters, to bring some stability to the Seminoles.

Trey Beard made his FSU debut in the fourth inning after missing the first week of the season following a battle with a stomach illness. Beard retired the first seven batters he faced before hitting a Nebraska batter with a pitch.

He allowed a double and a single that scored two before being replaced by Gabe Nard. A sacrifice fly was the final run charged to Beard, who allowed three earned runs.

Nebraska's Jett Buck went 2-for-3 with an RBI, but Dylan Carey was the star for Nebraska, as he went 3-for-5 with five RBI, including a two-run home run in the seventh inning.
