Kyle Schwarber Picks up Where He Left off in Phillies Spring Debut
· Yahoo Sports
For the first time in 2026, Kyle Schwarber put on a Philadelphia Phillies uniform and stepped in the batter’s box, making his Spring Training debut.

It may be a new season, and Schwarber might be on a new contract, but some things never change, and just like what we’ve seen from the MVP finalist so many times throughout his career, Schwarber slugged a home run out of the ballpark in his first at-bat game of the year.
Schwarber’s came off the bat at 109.7 mph and traveled an estimated 438 feet. The Phillies slugger already looks in midseason form, but he downplayed the swing a little bit after the game.
“Put a good swing on it, and it helps the wind was blowing out to right. I don’t know if it needed it, but it made it look farther,” said Schwarber.

Overall, Schwarber finished the day going 1-for-2 at the plate, with the homer and a hit by pitch. By his standards, this was a “good overall day.”
“Just trying to simplify that first a bat, and this happened to get a good piece of it, so, good at-bat there," Schwarber continued.
"Second at-bat, whatever, got hit, and then, the third one, I mean, don't want to take strike through there, but it is what it is. One of those good first day overall, but nice getting back in a little bit of a competitive setting, and went from there.”
Rob Thomson was amazed that Schwabrer was able to accomplish in his first live-action of the season.
“It really is [impressive],” said Thomson. “He understands the strikezone. He can hit velocity, he can hit off-speed, he can shoot the ball the other way. He’s improved overall as a hitter; it’s not just the power anymore.”

Mandatory Credit: Bill Streicher-Imagn ImagesIt isn’t too shocking that it didn’t take Schwarber long at all to pick up right where he left off in 2025, but it’s still nice for the Phillies to know that their star designated hitter feels comfortable before he heads off to join Team USA for the World Baseball Classic.
If Sunday is any indication of how Schwarber currently feels, he could be a key piece for Team USA as they look to win the Classic.
