During the meeting, Matthew Tkachuk offered to let the President wear the gold medal draped around his neck while posing for a photo.

“I’m not giving it back,” Trump joked.

After the meeting, the official White House account on X posted a photo of Trump — without Tkachuk’s medal — surrounded by members of the team that defeated Canada 2-1 in overtime to win the men’s hockey championship Sunday in Milan.

It was only the third Olympic gold medal in men’s ice hockey for the U.S. in its history, and it came three days after the United States defeated Canada 2-1 to win gold in the women’s ice hockey competition.

Perhaps the president had this history in mind when he said “I never thought I’d ever have this on me.”

The American team was able to fly on Air Force One to the nation’s capital Tuesday, enjoying some adult beverages along the way as shown in a Twitter/X post by influencer Nick Sortor.

As they made their way toward the Oval Office, several players briefly stopped at the open door of the White House press office to display their gold medals, drawing applause and cheers from staff members inside.
