The Bay Area resident and social media superstar posted on Instagram Wednesday that people were "all up in her personal space" and said someone even chased her to her car when she arrived at the Oakland Airport on Wednesday.
"So I land at the airport, & there's a crowd waiting at the exit with cameras & things for me to sign. All up in my personal space," Liu wrote. "Someone chased me to my car bruh. Please do not do that to me."
Liu's Gen Z charm has made her a household name after taking two gold medals in figure skating at the 2026 Winter Olympics, with throngs of fans now mimicking her raccoon hairstyle and learning the choreography for her dance to the hit song "Stateside" by PinkPantheress and Zara Larsson.
When 20-year-old Liu - who trained at the Oakland Ice Center - returned to the Bay Area after the Olympics, she got her first taste of fame at home, receiving a hero's welcome at the airport and becoming the talk of the town.
But that fame has come with a price to Liu's privacy. It's a change she acknowledged would make her day-to-day life different when she said at a recent press conference that she would "wear some wigs" when she steps outside.
Commenters on the Oakland subreddit were not forgiving to the alleged stalker who chased Liu to her car. One person said they were glad Liu called out the incident and "we need to start shaming this behavior." The comment got hundreds of upvotes.
