Florida basketball took a punch in the gut on Saturday afternoon in Nashville, where the Vanderbilt Commodores handed the Gators their worst loss of the season in the SEC Tournament semifinals with a 91-74 beatdown inside Bridgestone Arena.

Those loyal to the Orange and Blue were deeply concerned that their team would lose its No. 1 seed projection in the upcoming NCAA Tournament, but the latest bracketologies ahead of Sunday's conference finals should assuage those concerns. On Saturday, ESPN's Joe Lunardi said that Florida's top seed was secure and his latest bracketology update confirms that with the Gators atop the South Region.

USA TODAY Sports' bracketology also agrees, keeping Todd Golden's in the exact same spot.

Top seeds in ESPN's 2026 bracketology update

Despite losing to Vanderbilt by double digits in the SEC Tournament semifinals, Florida remains the top tier with its No. 1 seed in the South, along with the Duke Blue Devils, who remain the No. 1 overall seed with their perch atop the East, the Michigan Wolverines in the Midwest, and the Arizona Wildcats in the West.

SEC schools in ESPN's 2026 bracketology update

The Southeastern Conference maintained its 10-school count after three days of SEC Tournament play and remains in sole possession of the largest representation in the bracketology, with one more team than the Big Ten. The ACC and Big 12 have eight apiece; the Big East and WCC both have three, and the Mid-American and Atlantic 10 have two, rounding out the conferences with more than one school included.

Florida remains the highest-seeded school in the SEC at No. 1 in the South, followed by the Alabama Crimson Tide (No. 4, West), Vanderbilt Commodores (No. 4, East), Arkansas Razorbacks (No. 5, Midwest), Tennessee Volunteers (No. 6, South), Kentucky Wildcats (No. 7, East), Georgia Bulldogs (No. 8, Midwest), Texas A&M Aggies (No. 10, South), Texas Longhorns (No. 11, West) and Missouri Tigers (No. 11, East).

TAMU holds one of the last four byes, Missouri and Texas are among the last four in, and the Oklahoma Sooners and Auburn Tigers are among the first four out, with the former being the very first team excluded from the field of 68.
