The Denver Broncos have one of the most complete rosters in the NFL but there may finally be room for one move in particular before the 2026 season starts.
The Broncos signing Calais Campbell has long been talked about and it's always made sense. With Campbell being an unrestricted free agent and presumably looking for the right place to come calling, no place is a better fit than the Mile High City.
This move has long been talked about mainly because Campbell was born in Denver and went to high school there. A second-round pick in 2008, Campbell has played for five teams in his 18-year career and just finished a second stint with the team that drafted him, the Arizona Cardinals.
Campbell will turn 40 years old in September, which is the main reason most people who scoff at this notion will do so, but he has never shown any signs of slowing down. That includes playing in every game for the Cardinals last season and notching 6.5 sacks.
Calais Campbell makes sense for the Broncos in 2026
The Broncos lost John Franklin-Myers in free agency as he was given a healthy deal by the Tennessee Titans. The team is not going to spend to add a big-name replacement, so it will turn to guys like Sai'vion Jones and Eyioma Uwazurike to fill that hole.
But Campbell, on a one-year deal, could be a way better option.
Campbell can not only still put pressure on the quarterback, but he can also defend the run as well. Even at nearly 40 years old, he can still stay on the field for all three downs and make an impact. He is a true iron man as well, having missed just 15 of a possible 293 regular-season games in his career. That is remarkable.
It wouldn't be a tough sell to get him to come to Denver, either. The team is a top contender and it's his hometown. That's always a great combination going into negotiations.
