The 27-year-old spoke to Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain and revealed how he overcame his injury year, crediting his family.

“Last year was a crazy year for me,” Graterol said. “I never gave up, I always stay strong. I thank God my wife, my mom and my daughter were there next to me to push me and then get up, keep my head up. Yeah, last year was my biggest challenge. Yeah, that was a big challenge for me, like all year.”

McKain went on to ask him if he feels back to 100 percent. With no hesitation, the right-handed flame thrower gave him an overwhelming ‘yes.’

“Yes, I mean, I feel way better [than] last year,” Graterol said. “I’m so happy to feel like that. And I feel healthier. I lost a lot of pounds, too. Like 20 lbs right now. So, I feel great.”

Will Brusdar Graterol’s Shoulder Setback Keep Him Out Past Opening Day?

Although Graterol says he feels healthier, he will open the season on the injured list. Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts told reporters on Wednesday.

The Venezuela native is coming off shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum from November. 2024. He did not throw a single pitch last season for the Dodgers or their minor league affiliate. It has been a rough road for the 27-year-old, but the expectation is that he will be back to dominate in 2026.

Graterol agreed to a $2.8 million contract this season last month. He signed the deal to avoid arbitration and is set to become a free agent next offseason.

The right-handed pitcher has spent the majority of his career with the Dodgers. Graterol has been with the team since 2020, and he’s been solid for the Dodgers in his time in L.A. In 178 games, he has tallied a 2.69 ERA, 158 ERA+, 138 strikeouts, 3.19 FIP and a 1.03 WHIP in 181 innings pitched.

If Graterol is right and can stay healthy, the Dodgers’ bullpen will be among the best in the league. Add to the fact that L.A. has relievers like Edwin Diaz, Tanner Scott, Blake Treinen and Alex Vesia, and Graterol will have zero to little pressure to perform at a high level as he gears up for the season.
